ICL’s Vice President of Development has primary responsibility for developing the organization’s private fundraising strategy and detailed plan for execution. This senior-level position works closely with the Board of Directors, directly reporting to the Chief Networking & Relationship Officer. The VP of Development will craft two-year plans with prospect cultivation plans and financial expectations. The VP will develop charitable foundation relationships, build a strong donor database and oversee fundraising events.


  • Cultivate individual, corporate and foundation donors.
  • Set annual fundraising goal and create donation appeals,
  • Plan special events to heighten awareness of ICL and connect new people to the work of the agency to expand donor base.
  • Develop donor recognition programs.
  • Deepen relationships with vendors and increase the number of vendors providing support.
  • Oversee donor database (currently Salesforce) for improved prospect research and donor recognition.
  • Better engage Board of Trustees in work and support of agency and cultivate their contacts.
  • Identify foundations and corporate philanthropies as potential supporters in fields of ICL expertise.
  • Create a direct mail appeal and program for planned giving.
  • Other related tasks as assigned.



  • Strategic thinker: able to set and follow priorities, balance short- and long-term objectives
  • Clear system for organizing and following through with donor prospects.
  • Proven success at achieving fundraising goals in a major campaign and in closing major gifts.
  • Strong leader but also able to act as team player to get the job done.
  • Skill at balancing competing interests and ideas among key stakeholders.
  • Excellent writing skills, including the ability produce polished fundraising materials including proposals, reports, concept papers and cultivation materials.
  • Strong oral communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and fundraising database systems (preferably Salesforce) 

College degree. Five years of successful fundraising experience with at least two years in a senior development role. Proven experience in donor cultivation, meeting campaign/fundraising goals, and high-end major events; successfully obtained funds from foundations and corporate philanthropies.
