Under the general administrative supervision and the clinical supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Associate Director for MH Services provides supervision of the delivery of nursing services at residences, outpatient programs and ICL affiliate companies. Supervision includes monitoring and actual observation of the care rendered by direct care workers and other nurses. This includes provision of first aid, treatments, administration of medications, assessments, follow-up of medical care/consultations, certification and recertification of appropriate staff where needed.





  • Responsibilities include oversight of medical management processes and linkages with Health Care Choices as well as other similar health care agencies and Day Programs.
  • The Associate Director of Nursing provides clinical supervision to nursing staff and nursing supervisors at various locations.
  • The Associate Director of Nursing is expected to provide advice and consultation with specified personnel regarding residents’ medical conditions, precautions to be taken to prevent possible contamination or infection, instruction on certain topics, such as health education, disease prevention, care and treatment of certain conditions, medical management of certain problematic cases, as requested or on a pre-planned/pre-scheduled basis.
  • The Associate Director of Nursing will monitor outcomes of health related processes and protocols. He/she will participate in policy/process/protocol development and implementation and be responsible for Communication with other workers to provide information face-to-face, in writing or via telephone/electronic methods.
  • The Associate Director of Nursing is expected to keep up to date technically, knowing his/her own job and job-related functions and to participate in defining his/her role in the organization.
  • The Associate Director of Nursing is expected to maintain a system in place that ensures access to a nursing/medical person 24 hrs/day. He/she is expected to establish a schedule for visiting each assigned program to provide direct/hands on supervision and service.     
  • The Associate Director of Nursing is expected to assist the Director of Nursing or designee in developing training materials, providing training agency-wide and in conjunction with the IDD division on an as needed basis.
  • The Associate Director of Nursing for MH services will be responsible to assume the administrative duties of their counterpart in the IDD division in their absence and at the discretion of the Director of Nursing. Both Associate Directors (MH & IDD) are expected to cross-train on relevant administrative and clinical matters at the discretion of the Director of Nursing.


  • To provide efficient/effective coordination of the HealthCare Services in the Mental Health Division. This will promote a cost effective process delineating lines of authority, accountability and responsibility.      
  • Foster tracking/trending and promote quality improvements.
  • Registered Nurse, licensed in New York State.




  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing or related field required, Masters degree preferred
  • Five years experience working with individuals with mental disabilities. Experience with both OMH and IDD regulations is preferred.
